Randilen Plains
Our story
The beginning
Randilen Plains: Born as a Research Base, Kept as a Home
Randilen Plains didn't begin as a hotel. It began as a research base.
Our story starts with a Belgian research couple and a volcanologist who came to this corner of Tanzania to study the land. They chose a spot overlooking the Randilen plains and stayed because the plains gave them reasons to. The elephants arrived at dusk. The baobabs stood watch. The Maasai communities who have walked this land for generations shared what they knew of it.
When the research ended, the place kept its character: curious, quiet, and rooted in the land. That is who we still are.
A new chapter
A New Chapter
Today, Randilen Plains enters a new chapter under new ownership, shaped by a deep and personal connection to East Africa.
The current owner grew up in Kenya and now lives in Tanzania with his family. He brings a lifelong familiarity with the landscapes and wildlife of this region, and that connection informs a clear and considered vision for Randilen: one rooted in conservation, long-term partnerships with local communities, and a commitment to an authentic safari experience.
The Lodge and Bush Camp remain intentionally small, designed to offer space, privacy and a sense of stillness within the wilderness. Thoughtful design and attentive hospitality come together with the presence of the wild to create something quietly exceptional.
The view
Our View
Our view is the reason we're here.
From the Camp, the plains open in every direction, endless and golden, with nothing between you and the horizon but grass and sky. From the Lodge, you look down on the waterhole, where the animals come to drink. Elephants arrive in slow, unhurried lines. Zebra and antelope gather at the edge, and the birds are busy from first light.
You don't need a game drive to see it. Some of our guests never leave the veranda in the late afternoon, with a cold drink in hand and the whole show unfolding below, and we understand why.
